Navigating the New Rhythm of Grocery Day in Retirement

Today I want to talk about one of those simple yet notable changes in our dusty retirement journey – the shifting of grocery day. Retirement brings about many lifestyle changes, and adapting to new routines becomes a part of life’s evolving puzzle.

Discovering a New Schedule

For the longest time, our grocery shopping day was comfortably set on Saturdays. This routine fit perfectly when Lauren worked Monday through Friday at a medical clinic. However, with her new job at a hospital, her schedule has shifted, enveloping Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. As a result, Saturdays are no longer viable grocery days, prompting us to reevaluate and establish a new schedule. The decision wasn’t easy, but then again, decisions in retirement seldom are.

Lauren initially felt that Thursdays would suit us best for our new grocery day. However, life had other plans this week with an impending dental appointment tomorrow morning. Given the circumstances, today had to become our impromptu grocery shopping day.

A Different Kind of Journey

Reflecting back, I can’t recall the last time we revved up the motorcycle for a grocery run together. Eureka Springs used to be our adventurous grocery destination in the past, but those days are behind us, as the trip doesn’t include the comfort of air conditioning. While the trailer could potentially serve its purpose, practicality calls for practicality’s sake.

Hence, our journey today involved Lauren’s new-to-her Hyundai Santa Fe, equipped with modern-day comforts like air conditioning – a small luxury that goes a long way.

Why I Had To Change My Grocery Day

Today’s Grocery Haul

Our errands brought us to Dollar General and Walmart today, ending with totals of $59 and $113, respectively. On our return, our three-legged little dog was eagerly waiting for his customary post-grocery carrot, an old ritual we cherish.

The completion of our grocery haul marks the end of this week’s adventure. Simplicity yet consistency…

Looking Forward

Next week we aim to return to our Thursday shopping routine, though I doubt it will necessitate another video. While these escapades are often monotonous, there’s a certain silliness to them that makes life less predictable. Plus, with Lauren’s aversion to being on camera, these moments remain largely unrecorded, existing solely in cherished memories.

Thank you for joining me on this leg of our Dusty Retirement Journey. I look forward to sharing more of these everyday narratives with you soon.
